Rhode Island Sports Awards 2010

Hall of Famer Bobby Orr and Team USA Coach Ron Wilson are scheduled to appear at the 2010 Cox RI Sports Awards. Orr, a Boston Bruins legend and one of the greatest players to ever play the game will be at the awards on June 16. Ron Wilson, the head coach of the silver medal Men's USA Hockey team and current head coach of the Maple Leafs is also scheduled to appear.

Last year, Westerly’s Andrew Springer and Bay View’s Catherine Colucci received top honors. Springer, the nation's top high school miler, received the 2009 Male Athlete of the Year Award. Colucci, a multi-sport standout who excelled in field hockey, ice hockey and lacrosse for the Bengals, was named the 2009 Female Athlete of the Year Award.

The Cranston West wrestling team, which captured its fourth straight state championship this winter, received the 2009 Team of the Year Award.

The 2009 Male Collegiate Athlete of the Year went to URI basketball star Jimmy Baron. BrownUniversity soccer player Lindsay Cunningham, a graduate of CumberlandHigh School, was honored as the 2009 Collegiate Female Athlete of the Year.

Kelsey Kriner, a multi-sport athlete who competes for Rogers High and Special Olympics North Kingstown, was named the 2009 Special Olympics Athlete of the Year.
